Bioinformatics Software Engineer/Scientist

Beam is seeking an innovative, collaborative and accomplished engineer to support the development of novel gene editing therapies using our next-generation, state-of-the-art technology. The individual in this position will play a key role in developing Beam’s computational tools and infrastructure and will work closely with both computational and experimental teams to understand their respective needs and develop appropriate software.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and maintain software pipelines for analyzing data from novel and established next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays
  • Write software layers to facilitate integration between bioinformatics software, automation hardware, laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and other data repositories
  • Maintain and develop Beam’s cloud computing infrastructure and high-performance computing resources
  • Manage and organize Beam’s code repositories and promote rigorous software development practices
  • Develop web tools to facilitate data interpretation and sharing across the company



  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Engineering or relevant field
  • Experience working in software development teams in an industry setting (3+ years)
  • Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools for NGS data analysis
  • Experience working with cloud computing infrastructure, in particular AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, Batch, and Lambda
  • Demonstrated proficiency with relevant programming languages, such as Python or Java and with modern web development frameworks
  • Ability to work independently while also building relationships with colleagues
