We are seeking an innovative and motivated Research Associate with extensive experience in molecular cloning, protein expression, protein purification and protein characterization. The ideal candidate will have experience working with CRISPR proteins. The individual will work as part of the Structural Biology and Protein Sciences team to help with the production of a variety of proteins for assay development and structural characterization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with a team of scientists across the Discovery platform to clone and express target proteins in a variety of systems (e.g. bacterial, mammalian or yeast, as appropriate) and establish protocols for their successful purification
  • Design, plan and perform biochemical and functional characterization of the target proteins with guidance from team members
  • Contribute to the scientific strategy and output of the Protein Sciences team
  • Contribute to maintenance of infrastructure/equipment
  • Communicate experimental plans and scientifically rigorous findings via verbal and written communications, visualizations, and presentations
  • Proper electronic notebook record keeping
  • Successfully meet quality, quantity and timelines in all assigned projects

 

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS with ideally 2 or more years of experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, protein sciences with relevant industrial laboratory experience
  • Experience in molecular cloning, protein expression, and protein purification is a must
  • Candidate must be comfortable with routine use of FPLC (affinity, size exclusion, ion exchange chromatography), SDS-PAGE, and UV-VIS spectroscopy
  • Experience in mammalian cells is desirable
  • Ability to adapt to increasing scope and complexity of work brought on by growth/change
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and deliver conclusive results
  • Familiarity with a variety of assays looking at DNA and RNA interactions will be a plus
  • Experience in crystallography or cryo-EM sample preparation will be a plus
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
