We are seeking an innovative and motivated Scientist with deep experience in molecular biology, and protein biochemistry, ideally of CRISPR or DNA modifying proteins.  The individual will work as part of the Structural Biology and Protein Sciences Team that supports the development of novel gene editing proteins, using our next-generation, state-of-the-art technology.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the effort to design and clone target recombinant protein constructs, and establish protocols for their successful expression and purification (bacterial or mammalian, as appropriate)
  • Develop in vitro biochemical assays in support of platform efforts to characterize and optimize base editors or other therapeutically-relevant targeted proteins
  • Produce protein reagents for structural and biochemical characterization and preclinical applications
  • Manage outsourced protein production projects
  • Build and maintain on-site protein reagent inventory
  • Communicate experimental plans and scientifically rigorous findings via verbal and written communications, visualizations, and presentations
  • Proper electronic notebook record keeping
  • May supervise co-workers and contribute to their training and development

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of molecular cloning, protein expression (bacterial and mammalian), and purification is a must.
  • Experience with developing in vitro biochemistry assays, ideally looking at DNA and RNA interactions, is required
  • Experience with gene editing proteins (e.g. CRISPR/Cas9) will be a significant advantage
  • Experience in crystallography or cryo-EM sample preparation will be a plus
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to increasing scope and complexity of work brought on by growth/change
  • Ability to work independently while also building relationships with colleagues
  • High attention to detail, excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Supervisory experience
