Beam is looking for a highly motivated and creative Scientist/Sr. Scientist to advance our ophthalmology programs using next-generation gene editing technologies. This individual would work within the Ophthalmology team to design and optimize genome-editing modalities in pre-clinical assays toward IND and beyond.  The successful candidate would have a strong background in cellular biology and disease pathology of the eye, and they would demonstrate a passion for gene editing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Optimization of editing efficiencies in model systems in vitro and in vivo
  • Development of model systems of disease in cell culture
  • Generation of editing reagents using modern molecular cloning strategies
  • Characterization of editing profiles in collaboration with the off-target team using both targeted and unbiased approaches
  • Optimization of the delivery of base editors in collaboration with the vector production group
  • Timely communication of findings through written and verbal communications and presentations


  • PhD in cellular and molecular biology, genetics, systems biology or related discipline
  • A strong background in ophthalmology and ophthalmological disease is highly preferred
  • Strong skills in molecular cloning techniques and molecular biology tools
  • Previous experience performing next-generation sequencing library preparation is preferable
  • Experience using gene editing tools in vitro or in vivo is preferred, but not required
  • Excellent troubleshooting and time-management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work seamlessly within a team toward common goals are critical for a well-qualified candidate
