Beam is seeking a passionate and motivated co-op student to help us to advance our New Opportunities team, which explores novel therapeutic areas and targets for gene editing technologies from January though June 2023. The individual will support in vitro efforts in developing next-generation base-editing technologies and will gain comprehensive skills in mammalian cell culture as well as molecular biology techniques. 


  • Mammalian cell culture (immortalized/primary cells/iPSCs) and non-viral transfection
  • Molecular biology support: PCR, qRT-PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, Next Generation Sequencing Prep
  • Carry out target-specific assays and protocols for in vitro phenotypic analysis
  • Maintain detailed documentation and present results within a small, dynamic group of peers


  • Pursuing a BS or MS in a biological science related field with at least 1-2 years of hands-on laboratory experience
  • Knowledge of gene editing (CRISPR, or DNA/RNA base editors) is plus, but not required
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology methods is desired
  • Familiarity with Prism, Excel, PowerPoint, Electronic Lab Book programs is preferred
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting and collaborate with groups with diverse skills
