Company Overview:

Beam Therapeutics is a biotechnology company committed to establishing the leading, fully integrated platform for precision genetic medicines. To achieve this vision, Beam has assembled a platform that includes a suite of gene editing and delivery technologies and is in the process of building internal manufacturing capabilities. Beam’s suite of gene editing technologies is anchored by base editing, a proprietary technology that is designed to enable precise, predictable and efficient single base changes, at targeted genomic sequences, without making double-stranded breaks in the DNA. This has the potential to enable a wide range of potential therapeutic editing strategies that Beam is using to advance a diversified portfolio of base editing programs. Beam is a values-driven organization committed to its people, cutting-edge science, and a vision of providing life-long cures to patients suffering from serious diseases.

Position Overview:

Beam is looking for a highly enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate student intern to join the Lead Discovery team from June through August 2025 to assist in our efforts towards development of gene editing technologies. The intern will collaborate with team members on scientific strategy and discussion, with a particular focus on developing our high-throughput screening efforts. The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in gene editing and its applications in disease therapy.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute cell-based assays.
  • Analyze NGS data as a readout of these assays.
  • Molecular cloning.
  • Maintain BSL-1 cell culture.
  • Carefully document, present, and communicate scientific findings.
  • Collaborate with Beam members outside of the immediate Lead Discovery team.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a BS in molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or other relevant scientific degrees.
  • Familiarity with CRISPR/Cas9 systems.
  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Mammalian tissue culture and transfection experience.
  • Interest in lab-based automation.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work onsite.
